Post-Election Thoughts

Well, I know that this news is long past and possibly out-of-date for discussion, but nevertheless, I should say something about our Liberal minority government.

It still astonishes me what a political party can do and still receive the vote of the public (arguments about proportional representation aside). You can improperly spend tax dollars and still get re-elected (although Quebec clearly expressed its own personal aggravation with the Liberal party). You can allow privtaized health care to subtly creep into the Canadian health system and still receive the vote of those who oppose privatization of health care.

It would appear that Mr. Martin was successful in appealing to the fear of a Conservative government, and thus, we possibly had a party elected not so much for what they could do, as for what they wouldn't do in comparison to the Conservatives. Very interesting...

Anyhow, beefs aside, I am happier with a Liberal government than I would be with a Conservative government. Social justice issues should hopefully still get a degree of involvement and discussion in Parliament.

Thus concludes my political ruminations...for awhile anyways. ;) I've done enough political discussion and I will try to write on other topics over the next while.

Extended Absence Apologies

My apologies to those of you who have checked out my blog, but I was away for a period of time amongst a combination of trips; moving into a new home; and work.

I am back online and ready to resume writing. Hopefully, I should have something out as early as this afternoon.
